Approximately 100 Soldiers from the 615th Engineer Company, 4th - TopicsExpress

Approximately 100 Soldiers from the 615th Engineer Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, returned to the United States Jan. 3, after almost two months in Liberia. About 150 Fort Carson engineers deployed to West Africa in November in support of Operation United Assistance, the U.S. militarys response to the Ebola crisis. The returning Soldiers are in a controlled monitoring area at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, for a 21-day controlled monitoring period. The controlled monitoring period is a process where trained healthcare professionals will directly observe the Soldiers, monitor their twice-daily temperature checks and evaluate daily for symptoms consistent with the Ebola virus in a pre-established area. During the controlled monitoring period, Soldiers will not have physical contact with family members or other non-medical personnel, but they will have phone and e-mail access to their friends and families. The Soldiers from Fort Carson helped construct facilities to support the USAID effort to contain the spread of the Ebola virus in Africa. The engineers were part of a Total Army effort that includes units from the Active Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. The Soldiers remaining in West Africa will continue to provide assistance to the ongoing mission.
