Apropos of a thread from a few days ago, and a survey recently published showing many more plants in flower than in past Januaries, walked the dogs around our orchard today. I counted 11 different plants in flower. By far the most numerous were daisies and dandelions. Others, eg chickweed, deadnettle, had only isolated specimens flowering. Following my comments about Hazel however, today the catkins were beginning to emerge, as were Alder catkins. Along the A2, Hazel catkins were well underway.
