Archer was tired, battered and weak relying nearly solely on his honed instincts to react if and when trouble arose. And trouble always arose. Five times the butt end of his rifle caved in the head of an infected before they reached the other side of the steel mill. Three of those times he hadnt even know it was happening until it was over. Blood and fear were in the air now and by the heightened movements of the infected it would be only a matter of time before they were swarmed. The trio stopped and ducked down behind the shell of a wheel loader. It was the last cover they had. The next two hundred feet was wide open and at the end a ten foot locked gate that lead into the city. I can see at least thirty of them, Vincent whispered in despair, and thats just the ones directly in front of us! He glanced over his shoulder in the direction of their pursuers. From the distance of the lights they had just entered the mill. Kind of in-between a rock and a hard place with no favourable odds in-between. Archer grimaced, knowing each second wasted was that much closer to becoming dead. They needed to do something before they were caught between a mindless swarm of infected and a group of heavily armed militants. The door to the Loader opened with a deep creak, catching the attention of several nearby infected. Get in and stay there hidden until the path is clear then get over that damn fence and find somewhere to hide! What about you? Vincent asked quickly lifting Auska up into the cab of the machine. What are you going to do? Doesnt matter, Archer growled, just do as youre told. Dont leave me! Auska whimpered, her eyes moist with fearful tears. We can all hide in here, there is lots of room. She pleaded more than explained. Dont worry about me girl, Archer told her, a softer edge to his tone, I dont plan on getting myself killed for the likes of either of you.
