Are You A Survivor?/fb FEEL FREE TO LIKE ✔ & SHARE ✔ https://facebook/groups/AreYouASurvivor/ DOMESTIC VIOLENCE It Is Hard To Listen To This 6-Year-Old Girl Call 911 And Not Cry For Her The little girl in this 911 call is Lisa Floyd. During the call, she begs the dispatcher to send the police because her stepfather is beating her mother. To listen to her cries is horrifying, you can almost feel her pain. Luckily for her, this wasnt the end of her story. Though, like many other victims of abuse, things worsened before they got better. Years after this 911 call, Kit Gruelle, an advocate for survivors of domestic abuse, couldnt help but wonder whatever became of the little girl named Lisa. While working for the police department, Kit used her resources and eventually tracked Lisa down. Unfortunately, Kit found Lisa in her own abusive relationship. With the help of Kit, Lisa was eventually able to break free from of it. It was at this point in her life that Lisa found out about the recording. According to Field Education, Lisa signed over her rights to the 911 call recording, but she had no idea that it would be used to educate people about the effects of children living with domestic violence. Even though years had passes since the incident, Lisa was still unable to listen to the call and relive the horrific events of that night. She says she called the police many, many times when she was a child, and Child Protective Service (CPS) visited the home almost 2 dozen times. Lisa and her siblings were never taken away. When she was little, as with most children living in abusive households, she didnt want to be taken from her mother and was glad she was never taken from the home. But looking back now, she wishes they had. On the Children of Domestic Violence blog, Lisa shares her story that begins with, “I’m Lisa, a survivor with a future, because of my past.” She shares openly about the pain of growing up in an abusive home and how life continually tried to drag her down. I started to believe I wasnt worthy. I felt like a failure, destined for nothingness. I didnt believe I could change my life or my situation.” With these feelings, she moved into a relationship just to feel something, but it didnt take long before the relationship turned abusive. She put up with it for years, but was eventually able to break away. She attributes a lot of that to “people who have entered my life during this transition. The ones who took the time to encourage and nurture my growth. Near the end of her story Lisa writes, My journey isnt over – I still have many lessons to learn and obstacles to overcome. I’m just not afraid to take them on.” I think it is important for people to remember. You arent stuck where you are. You are simply facing an obstacle you need to overcome. With the help of people who care about you and your own belief that you have worth, you can survive. Listen to the 911 call below, but remember that the little girl who lived with so much pain weathered the storm and is finding safety and happiness in her life. If you, or someone you know is living with domestic violence, please contact The National Domestic Violence Hotline. And PLEASE, share Lisa’s story with friends and family, someone you know may be living with their own painful secrets.
