Are You Ready To Hear God? Probably the biggest hindrance to God’s people hearing Him can be found in our un-renewed minds. If we aren’t thinking His thoughts, how easy will it be to hear His voice? If our minds are filled with all of the trivia, the news, the fears and stresses of the world, are we in a good place to ‘hear’ God or ‘see’ His will for our lives. Probably not. Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, (2 Cor. 10:5) Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. (Phil. 4:8) Here we have two clear exhortations about having dominion in our thought life. Many believers don’t. They are the ones who usually have trouble hearing from God or having a clear direction for their lives. What can a renewed mind mean? And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Rom. 12:2) The renewing of our minds transforms us. In what way? It gives us the ability to prove the perfect will of God. In other words, an un-renewed mind, one that is full of negative thoughts, doubts, fears and stress, can’t tap into the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. The voice of God is going to be filtered through that which is in our minds. Sometimes our minds are so full of junk that we can’t hear God at all. Other times we may hear Him but misunderstand or misinterpret His leading due to all of the filters we have allowed to remain; filters of negativity, doubt, self-centeredness, etc. It can be compared to listening to your favorite speaker or music in the middle of a busy, downtown street, versus listening in the quiet of your living room. You will miss a lot in the downtown setting. The distractions and the noise will block your reception of that which is being said or played. So it is with our thought life. Purging our minds of ‘junk’ thoughts is crucial to being ready to hear Him and discover His perfect will for your life.
