Are you a fan of limited government? Want to see deep cuts in public employment? Okay, read on and think: where would you cut? In local government the largest job title is elementary school teacher, with about 1.2 million parasites holding those unnecessary jobs. After that there are teacher assistants, secondary school teachers, middle school teachers, substitutes--and then police officers. A bit further down the list come those worthless firefighters, of whom there are over a quarter-million taking money for practically nothing. In state government the commonest job is correctional officer or jailer, with about 237,000 bums sucking salaries in notoriously soft work. In federal service the guys who deliver your mail hold the prime spot, and mail workers of other types fill much of the area below. How much do we really need mail these days? Taken as a whole, those schoolteachers (at all levels) pretty much dominate public employment; they and the police are what cost us all so much. And of course they don’t deliver very much in return, do they? Actually, the job category with the most workers is military servicemember. The combined services account for about 1.5 million jobs; there are over half a million army soldiers alone. If you count the reserves that figure goes to about 2.25 million people paid out of the public coffers. And what do they do for us? I say we start cutting back right there and go down the list in order. Let me know what you think.
