Are you certified by the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization)?? I’m glad you asked. The answer is NO. Although, we embrace the ideology of Fair Trade Principles and we implement these standards while we conduct our business in Indonesia. We do not feel that we need to spend thousands of dollars to have an Organization with a flawed system tell us that we do business the right way. Pieces Of Paradise does not import agricultural commodities, however as an example, we will use coffee. Coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world after oil and is one of the driving engines of the WFTO. For nearly two decades, the U.K.-based Fairtrade Foundation has been trying to improve the lives of farmers in developing countries through a certification process that guarantees producers of coffee or cocoa sustainable prices for their crops. Do you not mind paying more money for Fair Trade Coffee because you’ve been told that those profits are going back to the farmers in impoverished countries??
