Are you sensitive to MSG? Did you know there are four other flavor enhancers -- MPG (monopotassium glutamate), CDG (calcium diglutamate), MAG (monoamonium glutamate), MDG (magnesium diglutamate) that are commonly found in spice blends and processed and restaurant foods? Have you seen labels or restaurants that proclaim "No MSG"? Their food could contain MPG, CDG, MAG or MDG. The FDA has a name for the short-term side effects of MSG -- "MSG Symptom Complex". These are numbness, burning sensation, tingling, facial pressure or tightness, chest pain or difficulty breathing, headache, nausea, rapid heartbeat, drowsiness and weakness. Long-term side effects are obesity, eye damage, fatigue, disorientation, and depression. Be a label reader and look out for the word "glutamate".
