Armadillo Sport Chiropractics Athlete of the Week - Travis Prater! He shows that you can be a science geek and still be an elite athlete! Travis testimonial: I waited till my mid 30s (2009) to turn over that new leaf or maybe it was a midlife crisis. Either way, I joined the local Corpus Christi Roadrunners and began running. It started out with 5K and 10K races and then I learned how to swim and joined the Corpus Christi Triathlon club. Ive completed numerous sprints, a few Olympic, and two half IRONMAN. But my true love is running and in June 2012 I ran my first marathon in San Diego. On my second marathon in Houston (January 2013), I broke 3:15 and qualified for The Boston Marathon. Recently, I ran the Phoenix Marathon (March 1, 2014) and came close to breaking 3 hours (3:01:24). Currently Im training for the Dallas Marathon in December and Boston Marathon in April where I plan/will break 3 hrs. The two photographs are from the Phoenix marathon where I was lucky enough to win my age group 40-44. In high school, I was considered a geek, not an athlete. Dont get me wrong, Im still a science geek but also love the adrenalin high and the friendly competitiveness that I get from running.
