Arsenal chief executive outlines financial firepower 07 Jun 2013. Arsenal chief Executive Ivan Gazidis has stated that the club isheading towards a new era in terms of financial firepower and are ready to compete with any top club in the world. It has been well documented in the media about Arsenal’s financial constraints when they moved to their new stadium Emirates in 2006, which had a tremendous impact on the club’s transfer strategies. Such days arebehind now, as major commercial contracts have come up for renewal which would giveArsenal a financial mileage in the transfer window. So much so that Gazidis has claimed the club can now afford to make marquee signings like Wayne Rooney, who is increasingly getting disillusioned at Manchester United. Arsenal’s record transfer has been Andrey Arshavin at £15m, who will be released on 30 June at the end of his contract but Gazidis says “anything is possiblenow” for them in transfer market. “We could do that, we could do more than that,” he said as quoted in the Guardian. “We have a certain amount which we’ve held in reserve and we also have new revenue streams coming on board. All of these things mean we can do some things which would excite you. We can think about all kinds of things.” Wenger has not ruled out the possibility of signing Rooney while the club has been targetingeither of the Real Madrid strikers – Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain.
