Article asks questions: Many issues and questions that surround the Clean Lines proposal have not been answered. Is Clean Lines a public utility? Does it have an obligation to serve that all public utilities have? Is it regulated in the same way our large public utilities are? Will it serve a common carrier role? Are wind turbines waiting to be connected to Clean Lines? Have any contracts been put into place to guarantee availability of generation? Has the project been vetted and approved through any of the regional transmission organizations that utilities must use for a project this size? Are utilities at the delivery end waiting with bated breath for Clean Lines to start sending them energy? Has Clean Lines given any indication that eminent domain will likely be necessary for the hundreds of miles of distribution lines necessary to connect the wind turbines to their converter station, in addition to the 350 miles of transmission corridor? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding “no.” That is the same answer that Clean Lines should get when they come asking for private property owners to “contribute” their land. . . . desmoinesregister/story/opinion/columnists/iowa-view/2015/01/17/craig-lang-transmission-lines/21910145/
