Articles like this make me think of what Jean-Paul Sartre said: That God does not exist, I cannot deny, That my whole being cries out for God I cannot forget. Whats the point of singing songs together, listening to a rousing sermon, and reading poetry? If in reality there is no God, then why are Atheists creating a church that operates pretty much exactly like the Emergent church? Like all human beings, Atheists are so incurably religious that they have to worship something, even if that something is themselves. Maybe the Atheists behind this church movement realize that on some level, and decided to create a venue to allow Atheists to be as religious as they want without having to pretend to believe in a deity. If this Atheist Church movement really plans to plant as many churches as they say they want to, it will be only a matter of time before a few are planted in the California-Oregon-Washington range.
