As I get ready to start my first Homecoming week as a parent Im - TopicsExpress

As I get ready to start my first Homecoming week as a parent Im getting a little disturbed with the theme I continue to hear from other parents who have been through this before. And for those of you who know me know that I dont usually do this type of thing on Facebook but this is how bothered I am by this. Im being told that the kids dont go to float sites anymore, they just like to go out and jack around town or elsewhere. Well, who doesnt like to go out and have fun, but we are blessed to be from a small town where traditions are still strong and supported. Ive been told that theres even been talk of not allowing Floats/ Float sites anymore. To me that is a big part of Homecoming week and a long time tradition. Without those and other traditions we carry during Homecoming week its just another Home Football game. Now, heres the kicker and where Im probably gonna make some parents mad but . . . . I believe it is OUR job as PARENTS to instill in our kids just how blessed we are to be able to carry on traditions like this. They are just that, kids and instead of letting them go out every single night during Homecoming week jacking around, how about we explain how its good to have Blackhawk Pride and be proud of the work they put into their float. Again dont get me wrong, I remember going to jack around away from the float site too but based on what Im hearing thats what Homecoming is being known for. Its becoming the tradition of Homecoming instead of what I remember should be the tradition. Again I know we went and had our fun but we knew where our priorities should lie. So as for me and my kids I will continue instilling in them how blessed we are to be from a small town that still cares about tradition. And I will be there to support them throughout their Blackhawk Higschool careers. And if that means making them un-popular by not letting them go out on the town every night during Homecoming week, well then so be it. I would just pray that when they are older they understand my choices.
