As a leader, you must know when to step-aside for the good of the people that you are leading. When in power, you are committing yourself to the service of your followers. Why this is an honorable move. Firstly, it shows that he is sending a powerful message to the nation stating that we must still proceed towards our national goals irrespective of his personal issues. Secondly, he has boldly told the world that Kenya shall not be a statistic for their future reference. If he went to court as a president, he would be the first sitting president at the ICC. This is an extremely bold move and he deserves merit for it. While studying the ICC for my International Criminal Law Class there is no doubt that some aspects of western dominations are present within the court and such a statistic would heavily play into the negative narrative of the stereotypical African Leader. Lastly, it shows that he is willing to honor his mandate. The ICC is a voluntary court. It does not take the first step to pursue cases on its own. One of its general principles is that it shall not pursue a case unless it is brought up to it via the Security council or by a state etc. Kenya voluntarily headed to the ICC through the Kenya National and Dialogue Reconciliation committee and further through our parliament that ratified the move. I further respect my President for this. #iamkenyan
