As a lifelong Detroiter, I find it unfortunate that suddenly - TopicsExpress

As a lifelong Detroiter, I find it unfortunate that suddenly members of the legislature have realized the dangers of appointing an Emergency Manager, with unchecked powers, over Detroit. Now that the priceless works of art in the Detroit Institute of Art could end up on the auction block, we are urged to act quickly to protect them. I ask, what about all the other priceless jewels of Detroit, why are we not acting to protect them too? Belle Isle for example is full of cherished memories for generations of Detroiters, why are we not acting to protect it from the unilateral actions of the Emergency Manager? Democracy is not always pretty and it takes time, but in the end, Democracy always works. Giving one man the power to slash and sell off Detroit’s assets is not, nor has it ever been the answer. I am glad my colleagues are starting to see that now.
