As many of you here know, teen homelessness continues to increase, particularly for trans youth. Speaking as someone who was homeless for years, starting at the tender age of 12, I can attest to the many many things out there ready to pounce and gobble these kids right up. The chances of a young person being unscathed by homelessness is zero. Many wont ever make it back. And for those who miraculously do make it back, their life trajectory will likely have been upset and rerouted forever, one way or another. This documentary film project intends to raise awareness of this urgent and increasingly wide-spread phenomenon. The more awareness raised, the more discussions will happen, and the sooner an effective multi-pronged strategy to secure these kids, and their very lives, will be developed. Although this particular project is US-based, our Canadian streets are home to countless T youth as well, each and every season of the year; a documentary such as this is directly relevant to what those of us working in this field are seeing regularly, and what our more marginalized T youth are enduring every single day.
