As my display picture shows, last night we lit candles for the fallen Israelis. This is a closeup. It shows the number of candles, and how young most of the fallen have been. We lit 70 candles. 63 for the fallen IDF soldiers. 3 for the fallen Israeli civilians. 4 for the four dogs who fell in combat over the past day and change. When my husky walked around the table, I told him, you want to say hi to your buddies? Within an instant, he walked over to the side with the four candles we had lit for the dogs, and, exhaling through his nose, he blew the first one out. Make of it what you will. Some of the candles went out unusually quickly, and as a dear friend noted, it was just like these boys lives. Others remained lit for so long, just like the memory of these boys hearts and bravery and sacrifice. We said the Mourners Kaddish, a eulogizing hymn for our fallen brothers, as well as prayers for the many soldiers still fighting and for the country of Israel. Here wishing that the next time we do this, there arent many more candles added to the table.
