As parents of ASD children we all dread changes to their daily - TopicsExpress

As parents of ASD children we all dread changes to their daily routine. But sometimes change is a necessity, especially in a household of 6. Eleven years ago my wife and I bought a 3-bedroom house, never dreaming wed have 4 boys. However, the boys demanded and insisted that they share one bedroom between them, content in each others company, despite the cramped quarters. This week marked a change in all that. Hawkin decided he wanted to sleep in the other bedroom, ready to claim his own space. Of course this upset Lincoln; I cant sleep alone! Who will stay with me? he cried. We assured him that all was well and his brother was just in the next room, plus he still had 2 other brothers in the room with him. Would the change in sleeping arrangements impact Lincolns sleeping routine? Were my wife and I in for night after night of hourly meltdowns? Well Im happy to report that none of that happened. Linc slept through the night like a champ, as did Hawkin. So yes, sometimes change cant be avoided but sometimes our ASD kids will surprise us and theyll just roll with the punches :)
