As some of you know we Visaggios own a property in Italy. It is not my Nonna and Nonnis land but it is very special to my family. The land that was ours was bought by the Italian government in 1984 and was to be flooded in preparation for a reservoir. To date this has not happened. We were permitted to remove items such as door hinges and locks, some of the terra cotta roof tiles and various other memorabilia. These items were not damaged by the fire. We lost more than 800 pictures....most of them taken in Italy. In my hysteria.....I forgot that I had videos. A local company has nearly 100 of our videos that can be transferred to 4X6 pictures. As I viewed the videos, there was the Antinori Family, the oldest winery in all of Italy....whose three daughters are now managing the day to day business. The Bonacossi Family who owns the Villa Capezzana in Tuscany. Contessa Lisa Contini Bonacossi and her husband Count Hugo Bonacossi produce fine wines and olive oil. At the time the Contessa was considered one of the best chefs in Tuscany. She also owned a cooking school. Bruno Ceretto, also one of Italys great vintners. His vineyard lies in the hills of Barolo in Piedmont. His business acumen is legendary. Livio Felluga to the North in Friuli-Venezia Giulia who produce magnificent wines. Livio allowed me to help prepare food at his summer villa while we and the rest of his guests sipped the famous Picolit dessert wine. As I sat and watched these videos,,,,,,,a vision of a Wine Tower at Visaggios to be built to honor these vintners and all the other Italian wineries whose villas we have been to, whose stories we have listened to, where we have laughed and cried, and were treated as loving family members. Our friendship has lasted nearly 34 years and their wines remain amazing! Some have passed to a better place, but their families continue to preserve their legacies. Bill and I are honored and humbled to be a very small part of their legacy........
