As today is the last day of Breast Cancer Awareness month (Happy Halloween!) and since Corey has let the cat out of the bag ;-)...Id like to remind all of my women friends and family the importance of having a yearly mammogram. I hadnt had one since 2009. Thought it was probably time and boy howdy am I glad I did. I was diagnosed with BC on Oct. 2nd. Ductal Carcinoma in Situ. This is a non invasive cancer which is 99% curable with lumpectomy, radiation and tamoxifen. But only detectable by mammogram. I had the lumpectomy on Oct. 16th and pathology found invasive cancer in the specimen so I had yet another surgery yesterday to biopsy my lymph nodes to make sure there was no metastasis. Happily the results came back negative and I will not need chemo in addition to the therapy mentioned above. Thank you all for your caring, hugs, and concern! It will be a long road to recovery but I am happy to be alive and a survivor. Please, please, please, have or encourage your loves ones to have a yearly mammogram. It could save their life. It saved mine.
