As we mature, we become more certain about what we believe in. Right or wrong, we’re all on some kind of path that defines who we are and as we age, we become set in our ways and convinced of our truths. There is an infinite number of paths we can take and belief systems that we can all choose from. To say that any of them is an “absolute truth” is mathematically impossible to consider…Yet many do. Many look at life as though it’s black and white and if I am right, then someone else must be wrong. Most who continue this belief throughout their life will eventually die bitter and alone. As a Christian, I do believe in right and wrong and that there are some absolute truths. However, If I were to take the most respected pastors and priests alive today and ask them to define them, there would be heated disagreements within minutes of the discussion. That is why my personal beliefs are between me, my family, the bible and my God. In our daily lives we all get to meet others where they are. If we stand firmly in our self -righteousness, we build walls and create resentment. If you’re hearing or experiencing something that is not in alignment with your solid beliefs, it’s not necessarily wrong. It’s simply different from your own perspective. You must realize that people take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because theyre not on your road doesnt mean theyve gotten lost… As an example, I believe that personal development is a daily practice – just like working out. You can’t go to the gym for a few months, get in shape, and never go back to the gym with the expectation you will always be that way. I try to live my life on purpose and, as a leader, it’s my responsibility to keep expanding my mind and improving myself. While I feel that everyone would benefit greatly from experiencing the kind of work that I do, am I right? My ego says, “YES!” but my heart/mind says; “maybe not.” I know that my own experience has been life changing, but that has been my path, my experience, and my choice. All I can do is be an invitation for others to “try it on.” Will you influence others to look at their lives in a different way? Absolutely. Will you be able to influence everyone? Absolutely not. And that has nothing to do with you, so don’t take it personally if someone isn’t ready to make a change. Finally, what I do is try to meet people where they are and focus on what we do have in common. Does this come naturally to me? Not at all… but today I am blessed to be surround by amazing friends - on many different paths and from all walks of life... For this, I am Grateful!
