Ashy-headed Babbler (Trichastoma cinereiceps) 4 1/2 inches is one of the Palawan endemics that I have never seen before. When Carlo Benitez Gomez asked me if I would like to see this bird, I replied without hesitation that I would like to. There is no bird that I would not want to see & photograph. However, I know how difficult it is to photograph Babblers. They are small & skittish, almost always a difficult subject to photograph. It was natural for me to be apprehensive to try & photograph this bird, but I told myself that this is the thrill of bird photography. The first place that we went to was zero, adding more apprehension if I would get to see this bird on this trip. On the second destination, with occasional transport vehicles & motorcycles passing which is highly unlikely for birds to be, it was exactly where this bird showed up. With my hat on I salute you Carlo for your birding skills. The bird was skittish. He was darting in and out of the shadows and sunlight. My photos were under & overexposed. But I kept on trying. Continuously searching and catching insects and pausing once in a while to sing and dance, giving me the chance to photograph this difficult but one of the cutest bird I ever saw.
