Aside from the wonderful infrastructure and refreshing lack of helmets and misguided helmet scolds, another thing to notice here is that virtually every bike has a chain guard. It occurs to me that its silly not to have a chain guard on a commuter bike. How much weight does it add, maybe 4 ounces? And how much does it cost vs. the cost of torn and greasy clothing and fussing with ankle straps etc., not to mention risk of injury when you get snagged in your chainring? Im getting a chain guard! ... And why are everyday bikes routinely sold without kickstands? ... Where did we Americans ever get the idea that our commuter bikes have to look like theyre stripped of every last possible gram for elite racing?
