At the Socialism Conference this past weekend, stand-up comic Danny Katch joked [and Im only loosely quoting], After last years conference we were hit with a cascade of awful political news. This year Im scared to go home. Maybe we should just never leave the conference... It was a great line. It also seems f--king prescient. Today we were hit with the Supreme Court attacking the rights of women and public sector workers, and then this evening we are hearing about a series of attacks on Gaza by the Israeli Defense Forces, in an act of collective punishment. A small part of me wonders if all of this would have happened if we had never left Chicago. The rational part of me knows that the fightback begins now: politically, organizationally, and culturally. On every front and in every arena, we are fighting for the future.
