At the age of 9, I was answering the phone by greeting the callers - TopicsExpress

At the age of 9, I was answering the phone by greeting the callers by name until my father made it quite clear that he’d prefer I stopped; it was unnerving to those calling the house! That’s when and how the gift first presented itself, and many other interesting and unusual events occurred over the years which either confused me or saved me. It would not be practical to tell you about all of them here, but I will share one: when I was in my early twenties, I prayed to God for roots. I felt I needed stability in my life and specifically asked for “roots.” Just a few short moments after that prayer I met my future wife, whose maiden name was Root! (We celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary in 2012.) Psychic experiences continued to occur from time to time after that, but I really didn’t understand them nor, for that matter, want them! While I was a graduate student in 1980, and working part-time at a funeral home, the psychic gift “flared up.” One evening I received a call and at the end of the conversation I said, “I don’t understand why, but I believe I know everything about you.” The person then asked me several questions, all of which I answered correctly. That had been an interesting incident, but I didn’t think it signified anything special. But the following morning when my shift was over I went to a neighborhood grocery store and while in the checkout line I observed the cashier and knew she was upset. She rang up my items and as she put the change in my hand I told her, “Your brother in a Wisconsin hospital will be okay.” She looked at me … screamed … and began crying!! Everyone thought a robbery was being committed! After the excitement died down she explained that, indeed, her brother was in a Wisconsin hospital, but she had told no one about him or his condition. There followed a two week period of overwhelming psychic activity, including my being able to feel the pain and sense the thoughts and feelings of people wherever I went. It was frightening, and I really didn’t know what to make of it or do about it. Upon the advice of a Virginia Beach psychic I asked God to take this away from me. The next day it was gone and I could once again walk through the malls without knowing each person’s thoughts. I praised and thanked God. The psychic had explained that I was not yet ready to accept the gift but that, at another time, it might return. A couple more times over the years it did come back, but each time I prayed to have it taken away and it would disappear. Speaking before a large group at a conference in 1993 the energy suddenly returned. When asked a specific question about stress (the topic of the program), I answered in depth and then suddenly went into a psychic explanation of what was happening to this particular person. The individual was impressed and asked how I did that. Referring to my previous experience as a radio program interviewer, I told her I was pretty good at guessing. Even as I drove home that day, it still had not fully struck me that the gift had returned once more. In the weeks that followed, it became obvious I was psychic. This time, however, I did not pray for it to be taken away. I was standing on the edge of a new beginning. I accepted the freely given gift and began to learn how to channel what was emerging into a service that would be useful to others.
