At the end of each semester in my “Introduction to Theology” - TopicsExpress

At the end of each semester in my “Introduction to Theology” course, we conclude with extensive class dialogue about the “3 D’s”--and I’d like to put them to the group this week for consideration: * Discussion Question: “What doctrines and practices do you personally believe merit the status of 1) Discipline; 2) Division; or 3) Disagreement?” Here’s how I define these categories: 1. Discipline: Doctrinal/moral offenses for which you, as a church leader, would officially expel an unrepentant member of your local congregation who professed/practiced them (Mt. 18:17; Rom. 16:17; 1 Cor. 5:5; 2 Cor. 6:17; 2 Thes. 3:14) 2. Division: Doctrinal/moral disagreements that do not fit into the first category, but are serious enough to prohibit you, as a church leader, from cooperating with another church that professed/practiced them (Amos 3:3) 3. Disagreement: Doctrinal/moral matters that may be important, but do not fit into the first two categories (Rom. 14) * Since this question is especially challenging to discuss on-line, would you allow me to moderate it in a little more hands-on fashion? Could I suggest that we start by thoroughly discussing doctrines/practices that are in the first “D” category of Discipline? Then I’ll summarize our composite list (probably Tuesday morning) and we can go on to the second category. Please consider reading “Comment #1” below before commenting yourself, as it contains a list that is intended to start off/provoke discussion (i. e., it is INTENTIONALLY partial and imprecise). .
