At the peak of the NASA Apollo program, Nasas portion of the - TopicsExpress

At the peak of the NASA Apollo program, Nasas portion of the national budget was 4%. Today it is less than one half of one percent. Thinking back on all the technology that has been developed not only for the manned space program but the technology that has come from that endeavor, where would we now be if we had kept up that amount of effort in the exploration of space? The argument has been why waste all that money on space when it could have been put to better use such as finding a cure for cancer or feeding the poor? My argument is that the money has not been wasted and we might not have as many poor people if Nasa had not lost that percentage of the budget. As a matter of fact, I would be willing to bet that we would be closer to that Star Trek moment where there was no more need for money because that technology being discovered provided enough industry to employ everyone and provide them with the means to live productive lives without having to worry where the next meal comes from or if they had a roof over their heads. Much less a cell phone paid for by tax money.
