Photo by: Shia Kapos Mike and Kristina McGrath had some unexpected visitors during their annual Chicago Air and Water Show viewing party held in their penthouse home in the Palmolive Building on North Michigan Avenue. Firefighters stopped by Saturday when the popcorn maker set off alarms. It was set up in the foyer so guests could enjoy as they stepped off the elevator. After firemen determined there was no threat to the building, the McGraths — hes the president and CEO of privately held McGrath Lexus/Acura/Honda/Hyundai — invited them to return to the party when their shift was over. The couples two-day event attracted more than 500 guests in all. The party went on the second day even though the air show was canceled because of fog. “To be perfectly honest, I didnt realize the air show was canceled until the party was over,” Ms. McGrath told me this morning. “Our house was full and I was busy entertaining.” Among the notable attendees on Saturday were Rick Canada, vice president at Harrison Street Capital, and his wife, Toni Canada, vice president of employment services at the American Medical Association; Paul Iacono, president of Chicago Dowel Co.; Todays Chicago Woman founder and President Sherren Leigh; public-relations specialist Margaret OConnor and her longtime significant other, Dr. Michael OMeara; car dealership owner Jim MLady and Dr. Cathy Stephen; Dr. John McMahan and his wife, Lynn; Rance Crain, president of Crain Communications Inc.; and Julee White, president and CEO of Testarossa Entertainment. Along with sweeping views of the city, party guests were treated to an old-fashioned barbecue with hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad — and popcorn.
