August 22, 1956 The Five Satins make their debut on the Billboard R&B chart with a song they recorded in a New Haven, Connecticut church basement, "In The Still of the Night". Originally issued as a "B" side on the tiny Standard label, the song was re-released by Ember Records after some strong local sales. The 45 would rise to #3 on the R&B chart and #24 on the Pop chart, selling over a million copies.
