August: Osage County review Directed by John Wells. Written by Tracy Letts (Killer Joe). Starring Meryl Streep (Death becomes her, Iron Lady), Julia Roberts (Closer, oceans 11), Ewan Mcgregor (Star wars 1-3, trainspotting) and Chris cooper (Jarhead, American beauty). I have never been a fan of Meryl Streep or Julia Roberts their films have never struck me as something special but this film has converted me to both of them. The story is about a huge event in this families life rings them all back together and stirs up a lot of feelings about each other. I want to start off by saying sorry, sorry that the synopsis is terrible but if I said anything more about this it would truly spoil it if you havent seen a trailer or a review the better experience it is for you!!. Tracy Letts is a name I first heard way back in 2011 when a small indie film called killer joe came out and boy was it fantastic!! This film is similar but also very different, they are both character studies, August is a gripping, well told tale and Tracys dialogue is as sharp as a razor and quick as a bullet it truly is something special. The acting is all round superb there is not one person here who is average or phoning it in just a brilliant cast and in particular Meryl And Julia they are powerhouses in this film and easily could have slipped into shouty acting but because of their talent and John wells superb direction they never get to that and every decision feels believable and every word has passion behind it. The cinematography is outstanding every shot is well planned and just absolutely stunning!! The end credits song by kings of Leon is a real toe tapping, knee slapping song and is one of the best songs to accompany a film since the 80s. Overall this film is truly spectacular and I couldnt believe how much I loved it this really has to be seen a real master class in acting and the power of a performance! 10/10
