August marks the centennial of the beginning of the Great War. The assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand and his wife, the Countess Sophie on June 28, 1914 was the catalyst that plunged Great Britain and the Empire into war on August 3, 1914. The Middleville and District Museum invites you to attend a commemoration which will focus not on the war itself, but on how the Great War affected those at home and how they supported the general war effort and the sons and daughters who volunteered to defend Canada and the Empire. You can become acquainted with some of the local volunteers through their military records, photographs and letters home. Listen to the music of the times and sample some wartime recipes as you make their acquaintance. .
