I post this message, or something similar, from time to time for the benefit of those looking for a new puppy, so for those who already have their pugs bear with me :) Seeking a new puppy leads you into a minefield of potential pitfalls - how do you find a good breeder and how do you know your breeder IS good? The easiest way I can help is to explain some of the warning signs that someone is NOT a good breeders, and in pugs there are a lot of telltale things to look out for. First, puppy farms - be very, very wary of any breeder who advertisers lots of different breeds, advertises week after week, takes credit cards, will deliver - or any other aspect which makes you see them as a commercial operation. Next, dodgy breeders - avoid any breeder who is trying to sell/tell you pugs come in rare or unusual colours - pugs are Fawn, Black or Apricot, although Silver is still a colour allowed to be registered it no longer exists! People are trying to pass off mismarked fawns as silver, mismarked blacks as Platinum, the rest of the Fad colours, including White, Chinchilla (not even a colour!!!), Chocolate etc, etc are not even pure bred pugs, so steer clear of the Fad colour breedres, they are either scammers or have been scammed themselves an not done the research to know their dog is not pure pug. Miniature pugs - no such thing, they are either what is known as runts (tiny pups usually with heath problems) or are crossed with a different small breed. This is just a start - anyone else have any other points to help people find a new pup?
