Auroville Triathlon 2013 Sunday October 13 Starts at 5.30 am...so regular lap swimming will resume when all participants have finished the swim course...probably around 7.30am. A triathlon is being planned for Sunday, October 13th. There will be two distances, Sprint and Olympic. Sprint Triathlon: 750 m swim, 20 km bicycle, 5 km run Olympic Triathlon: 1500 m, 40 km bicycle, 10 km run The Olympic distance will begin at 5:30 am at La Piscine. The Sprint event will begin as soon as the Olympic distance participants are out of the pool, hopefully, not later than 6:30 am. But, if there is more than one heat, it may be later. We will know by September 3rd and will provide updates. The event is open to Aurovilians and Newcomers only. To participate: 1) You must know the running and bicycle routes beforehand. The route will not be marked. Maps will be made available to anyone interested in participating. Tours of the running and bicycle routes will be arranged. Tentatively on Saturday, October 5th or Sunday, October 6th, leaving from La Piscine. If anyone wants to help guide one of the running tours (Sprint or Olympic), please inform Lyle. He will appreciate the help. 2) You must be self-supporting throughout the event. There are no aid stations. Participants must bring their own refreshments. 3) You must have (or arrange to have) your own equipment (swim suit, bicycle, etc.). We recommend that you (or your escort) carry a patch kit, spare tube, and pump. 4) We highly recommend that all participants arrange their own escort(s) for the run and the bicycle routes, especially women. 5) You (or your escort) must carry a cell phone on the run and bicycle ride, in case you need help. Help does not include repairing punctures, running out of water, getting refreshments, etc. You (or your escort) must be able to change a tire or be prepared to walk your bicycle. 6) You must inform Lyle by October 3rd at the latest. This is to work out the logistics, especially for pool slots, if there are more than 10 participants in any event. You can inform Lyle either by landline: 262 2379, mobile: 9787628118, or by email ([email protected], subject: triathlon). When you inform him please provide him with: The distance you will undertake: Sprint or Olympic A contact number and an email address, if you have them, preferably an email address to keep you abreast of any new information. 7) You must come on time for the start of your event. 8) A small contribution might be requested, if any unforeseen expenses crop up. At this point, we are hoping for a free event. Anyone who would like to help organize the event or be part of the support team is welcome to contact Lyle. The support team is pretty simple, be at the pool during the event and be available to help any participants that call for help. Lyle
