Austral Public School I visited the school to address students about Parliament. Principal Jan Rogers particularly stressed the cooperative sharing between the eight schools in the Cowpastures Community School Program, that range from Badgerys Creek with 8 students to her own school with 324 students. This cooperation means that many events that would otherwise not happen are assisted and that students have more opportunities for social interaction. The school is especially proud of its debating effort and a number of students have recently been selected for zone athletics. Whilst in Canberra, the teachers and students were especially interested in the role playing at the Parliamentary Education Office where they debated a bill and voted on it. There was a contrast between two Speakers with the hardline Tyrell Lotoaniu having the Sergeant of Arms remove teacher Noel Brown and Ross Cutelli being a more tolerant Speaker. At the school, it was a great morning with penetrating questions ranging from my preferences between Julia and Kevin to what other careers I had considered and how I accomplished Party selection as a candidate.
