Australian Bengali Hindu Association – PUJA The association held its annual Puja at Granville Town Hall. Set by the Hindu calendar it usually lasts six days, remembering the victory of goddess Durga over the demon buffalo Mahishasura. I was pleased to again be there at a joyous, community event that had saris flying around an impromptu dance floor. Also present were Councillors Julia Finn and Susai Benjamin, who are respectively running as Labor candidates for Granville and Toongabbie at the State elections. Both have had long term associations with the subcontinent and Hindu communities of Western Sydney. The Sydney celebration stretched over 18 hours of Saturday and Sunday, with set ceremonies, childrens’ painting and a cultural programme.
