Awesome Sony Boombox (The Early Days | Document 95 Part 2 Continued) The Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox can be made part of an emergency prep kit in advance of a natural disaster, severe weather event, unplanned weather events, high wind warning, tornado, water main break, building collapse, bridge collapse, construction site accident, boating vessel accident, gasoline shortage, plane crash, train derailment, drought conditions, emergency water usage restrictions, water supply contamination, manmade catastrophe, terrorist attack, explosion, asteroid collision, during periods of civil unrest, to receive notice of abhorrent criminal conduct taking place in the neighborhood on FM or AM news radio broadcasts, or to receive F.C.C. Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages on the FM/AM bands. Personally, I can’t recommend a wind-up hand crank radio. I have never reached a point in my life that I have witnessed a complete disposable battery shortage. I have never run out of D battery power during a power outage that I can remember. D alkaline batteries are one of the most ubiquitous items for sale in the U.S. D alkaline batteries can be purchased at almost any type of store anywhere. Yes there are some exceptions, but not many in my experience. However, D alkaline batteries tend to become scarce immediately before, during, or after a severe storm and power outage. One way to avoid a temporary D alkaline battery shortage and loss of battery power is to buy a spare set or several spare sets of D batteries prior to an unplanned emergency event for the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox in case you can’t find a store that sells D alkaline batteries at the current moment. The spare set of D alkaline batteries will last you much longer than the self-powered wind-up rechargeable radio. I recommend Duracell Coppertop DURALOCK Power Preserve Technology or Energizer Max Power Seal Technology D alkaline batteries for the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox to provide reliable long-term battery performance during a power outage or during emergency events as circumstances require. A spare set of Duracell Coppertop DURALOCK Power Preserve Technology and Energizer Max Power Seal Technology D alkaline batteries can maintain full power in the factory packaging for up to 10 years from the current date of purchase. As a result, long-term storage of D alkaline batteries is a favorable option to power the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox during almost any nightmare public endangerment scenario. However, a wind-up radio may be a more desirable portable FM/AM/Shortwave/NOAA WB radio to take on a long camping trip, hunting trip, fishing excursion, or to have during a very long-term power outage situation. The Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox offers exemplary battery life on one set of D alkaline batteries and that is sufficient reason alone for me not to recommend a wind-up radio. Wind-up radios may also be inconvenient for customers that suffer from arthritis, joint diseases, or other maladies that cause pain in the hands. The Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox offers better sound from its robust Mega Bass enhanced stereo speaker system on radio broadcasts, when compared to a wind-up radio, in order to provide increased voice clarity on vital up-to-the-minute weather reports, traffic updates, voluntary evacuation orders, and mandatory evacuation orders on the FM/AM bands at any time to the end-user. Rest assured that you can connect any iPod’s Stereo Headphone Jack to the 3.5mm Auxiliary Line Input Jack on the Sony ZS-H10CP Personal Audio Stereo System. Optionally, you can purchase an Apple Universal Dock for Apple iPod and iPhone Model: MC746LL/A or later model from an authorized Apple reseller to connect your iPod/iPhone to the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty Boombox. You must connect the 3.5mm Line Output Jack on the Apple Universal Dock to the 3.5mm Line Input Jack on the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox with an optional 3.5mm-male-to-3.5mm-male stereo patch cable to complete all connections. You can purchase any of the following 3.5mm stereo patch cables to make this iPod/iPhone connection to the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty Boombox a digital portable music playback reality: 1. Dynex DX-MP353B, 2. Dynex DX-MP35B, 3. Dynex DX-AD105, 4. Rocketfish RF-PAUX2, 5. Dynex DX-MP3AX, 6. Dynex DX-DMP354, or 7. Dynex DX-DCAUX. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend that you bring your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox in for an out-of-warranty repair to a factory authorized service center should the boombox come across a major failure after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. Repair costs including a repair diagnosis estimate, replacement parts cost, labor fees, and any applicable sales taxes can quickly add up. Out-of-warranty portable audio repair costs can either equal or exceed the cost of a new similarly performing Sony boombox that can be purchased at an authorized Sony brick-and-mortar or online retailer. Some types of Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox damage such as severe water infiltration, power surge problems, abnormal operation, or damage issues arising from accidental or intentional product abuse are not repairable. There are many troubleshooting steps you can take before seeking out-of-warranty repair service or purchasing a replacement item for your malfunctioning Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox. Those steps include: 1. Check the battery compartment for battery acid leakage. 2. If you notice battery residue on the battery terminals, clean the terminals, and then reinsert fresh name brand batteries. 3. Always observe correct polarity in the battery compartment. 4. I recommend top-notch D alkaline batteries for maximum reliable operation of your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox. 5. Check the compact disc that you are trying to play. 6. Is the compact disc scratched, damaged, warped, or dirty? 7. If it is, your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox will be unable to play your disc. 8. Try a different CD, and see if conditions improve. 9. Is your CD-R/RW disc finalized incorrectly? 10. If not, finalize the CD-R/RW disc on your CD Recorder with appropriate CD recording application software. 11. If so, check and make adjustments to the record settings in the CD burning application software on your computer to correct the problem. 12. Make sure that the inserted CD-R/RW disc is not a blank disc. 13. Check for physical damage. 14. Has the malfunctioning Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox been dropped, dropped repeatedly, exposed to excessive amounts of water, dirt, sand, dust, rain, and/or direct sunlight for significant periods of time? 15. Your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox will malfunction if any of these conditions are present, and may not be correctable as a result. 16. If the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox has been exposed to excessive amounts of water, let it dry for a few hours before attempting to use it again. 17. Make sure that the CD laser lens is clean. 18. Refrain from touching the laser lens at any time. Otherwise, it may malfunction. 19. You can always consider upgrading to a better pair of stereo headphones or HD driver stereo earphones with a low impedance rating (measured in ohms) and a high sensitivity rating (measured in decibels) to improve your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox’s overall sound during lengthy private listening sessions. 20. Over-the-head circum-aural or supra-aural pro DJ Style Stereo Headphones provide the best sound in most instances. 21. Keep the compact disc compartment lid closed when the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox is not in use. 22. Do not use a third party AC/DC Power Adapter for your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox. 23. A third party AC Power Adapter may cause noise during compact disc playback. 24. Keep your Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox clean to avoid unnecessary and premature CD Player failure. 25. Purchase a CD laser lens cleaner such as a Dynex CD Laser Lens Cleaner DX-CDDVDCL to correct CD Playback issues. 26. Purchase a CD repair kit to correct disc playback problems such as the Aleratec CD Repair System Model: 240131. 27. Borrow a CD from a friend and see if playback conditions improve. 28. If your friend’s CD plays correctly, you can consider purchasing a new audio CD to resolve your disc playback problems. 29. As per the operating instructions under the “Troubleshooting” section, for the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox states that if a CD does not play or stops playing suddenly, the direct cause is that the audio disc is installed upside down. 30. The audio disc must be inserted into the disc compartment with the label side facing up before the disc compartment door is closed to achieve proper playback. 31. Reinsert the disc in the disc compartment correctly to avoid disc playback stoppage issues. 32. The “No Disc” indicator appears in the LCD with a blinking line in place of track numbers because the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox is attempting to read your audio CDs TOC or Table of Contents so that playback can begin from track 1 and proceed to the last track under normal playback operating conditions. 33. The current disc can’t be read by the optical laser beam pick-up assembly and the “No Disc” error message appears in the LCD as a result. 34. If the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox does not respond to this particular remedy, then there is a significant chance that your Sony portable audio item has a major failure. 35. Place the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox on a flat stable surface during audio CD playback operations to avoid playback disruptions. 36. Do not play irregularly shaped audio discs. 37. Do not block the ventilation holes in the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox cabinet openings. 38. Wipe away excess water off the disc compartment, disc compartment lid, Headphone Jack, Line Input Jack, 9V DC IN Jack, and boombox casing to avoid rusting on the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox. 39. The rear panel storage compartment is not waterproof. 40. Lastly, do not store personal valuables in the storage compartment on a permanent basis. The Sony ZS-H10CP Personal Audio System’s telescopic whip antenna will be automatically disconnected when any pair of headphones is connected to it. At this point, the headphone connecting cord will act as the portable stereo’s FM antenna. Be sure to keep the headphone cord as straight and extended as possible for best FM Band reception results during private listening sessions. The telescopic whip antenna will be reinstated as soon as the headphones are disconnected from the portable boombox’s 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack. Perfect FM reception will be maintained during private listening sessions as long as any pair of Sony MDR Series Stereo Headphones is connected to the portable stereo’s 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack. The integrated ferrite bar AM Band antenna is never disconnected when headphones are connected to this boombox. Technical support for the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Boombox including operating instructions and complete marketing specifications documents is provided by the manufacturer on its website at SonyStyle.
