Awhile ago I became aware of a couple friends in need. One is from the Philippines and her father had a medical emergency that resulted in unexpected and uncoverable expenses. The other is from the States and simply wanted a good book to read. Even though I couldnt financially justify it, I paid part of the medical bill for one friend (with assistance from yet another) and sent the second a copy of one of my favorite books. I did these things not because I expected a reward, but because it was the right thing to do. Besides, according to my beliefs, I KNEW I would get a reward as long as I didnt try and dictate what it might be. Some call it Karma. Since then, Ive seen the level of stress decrease in my friend and a smile return to her face. I also just got a message from the other one telling me how much he enjoyed the book. This is the reward I knew was coming and its among the most valuable commodities on Earth. Happiness, along with the kindness that it grows from, costs nothing to give, transfer, or accept but can change lives, folks. I know its not a fairy tale world out there and that Ozzie and Harriet are long dead, if they ever existed at all, but please treat each other with kindness whenever possible. Its not that difficult and it DOES make a difference.
