BA STAY ALIVE Ba 4 (Shem (own goal) 48’, Dunadamu 51, Rao 83’, Mavileko 90’), Tafea FC 0 Halftime: 0-0 What happened: Vodafone 4R Ba stays unbeaten in the 2014 OFC Champions League with a 4-0 win over Vanuatu’s Tafea FC yesterday. The ‘Men in Black’ leads Group C with six points from two matches. Striker Maciu Dunadamu, who hasn’t played top level football for the last nine months combined well with Osea Vakatalesau while nippy Meli Codro was outstanding on the flanks. Tafea with the combination of captain Jonah Turu, Dalong Damalip, Joses Nawo and Bong Kalo tried their best but Ba goalkeeper Epeli Codro was safe and reliable in goal. Both teams failed to score in the first half but Ba continued their momentum in the second half. In the 48th minute Dunadamu persistence paid off after his shot deflected off a defender for an own goal. In the 51st minute Dunadamu extended the lead after he got a perfect feed from Vakatalesau to beat Seloni Iaruel. The visitors were left to play with 10 men after referee Matt Conger flashes a red card Kevin Shem in the 82nd minute. Shameel Rao came off the bench to score in the 83rd minute to tap in goal a from a 40 yard free kick from Avinesh Suwamy. In the 90th minute Mavileko Nakama came off the bench to score the last goal. Star Turn: Striker Vakatalesau will be a key player for Ba. He didn’t score but he contributed and was instrumental to all the four goals. His general play and work rate is well above par. Big Plus: A well balanced Ba team deserved the win. They communicated and defended well and it paid off in the end. The use of impact players like Shalendra Rao and Avinesh Waran Swamy in the second half worked to good effect. Comments: Ba Coach Yogendra Dutt said, “We played our tactics right in the second half. I’m incredibly proud to earn such a comprehensive victory in front of the home fans. “We are proud of the boys, they listened to instructions well and followed the tactics we set out. We scored those four goals and we’re very proud of how they performed out there today.” For Tafea coach Moise Poida it was a disappointing afternoon out on the field for his side. “I think we just lost our strategy in the second half. We played well in the first half but for the second half I think the boys forgot about what we talked about in training yesterday. I know it’s also very difficult to win in Ba’s home ground – but it’s football. “We did very well in the first half, we outplayed Ba. After halftime we tried to change something around and then the boys failed to stick to the game plan.” Source: fijisun
