‘BANNED EXPRESSION’ PREMIERED AT THE HUMAN RIGHTS HUMAN WRONGS FILM FEST The evening of the 6th February saw the premiere of the Tibetan Documentary Film ‘Banned Expression’ at the Human rights Human wrongs Film Festival amidst applause and positive reviews. The 40 minute documentary film made by Voice of Tibet highlights the ban on cultural expressions and the plight of poets, writers and singers in Tibet who face and continue to face repression at the hands of the Chinese authorities in the form of imprisonment, torture and lengthy detentions. The film documents artists such as Tashi Rabten, Gartse Jigme, Dhondup Wangchen and Lolo among many others who brave prosecution and propagate patriotic messages through poems, journals and eulogized songs in Tibet. Activist Dechen Pemba introduced the film to the audience and echoed the messages of the artists, “You will see how the singers and writers are expressing their Tibetan identity. The messages are uniform and ask for the unity of Tibetans inside Tibet, the reunion of Tibetans world over and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet. Even under repression, Tibetan culture is coming out more strongly and shows the spirit of the people have not been broken.” The film was followed with a song performance by Swiss based Tibetan singer Loten Namling and Oslo based singer Hildegunn Øiseth. The event also marks the launch of the ‘Banned Expression Campaign’ by VOT (vot.org), High Peaks Pure Earth (highpeakspureearth) and TCHRD (tchrd.org) in collaboration. Human rights a Human wrong is an annual film festival showcasing documentaries related to human rights from around the world. The 6th Human rights Human wrongs documentary film festival is currently underway in Oslo, Norway. https://soundcloud/tenzin-dharpo-1/banned-expression-premiered
