BBC Sport: Cyprus FA check out Shrewsbury Town defender Mickey Demetriou!!! Shrewsbury Town defender Mickey Demetriou is in line for a surprise international call-up by Cyprus. The 24-year-old, who made his Football League debut in August following his move from Kidderminster, qualifies through his Cypriot grandfather. The Cyprus FA are investigating his eligibility to play, said Town chief executive Matt Williams. Theyve monitored his progress. They were very impressed with him in our League Cup game with Chelsea. Demetriou has previously played for the England C non-League side, making his debut against Bermuda in June 2013, but Williams believes that would not affect his full international status. I asked him that question about whether there was a conflict, but he says no, Williams told BBC Radio. Demetriou had trials with both Leicester City and Fulham before learning his trade with the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain. He then signed for Eastbourne Borough before joining Harriers in June 2011 on an initial one-year contract. He made 108 league appearances in three years for the Harriers before becoming one of Town boss Micky Mellons 17 signings during the summer.
