BEYOND THE BOUNDARY: My first anime review. This show is pretty new, finishing its 12th and final episode in Japan around Christmas time last year. When you finish watching the first episode, like a number of anime shows, youll ask yourself a lot of questions. Such as why this high school girl (named Mirai), who was just talked out of committing suicide by a guy with a glasses fetish (named Akihito) would then create a sword using her own blood and then stab him like he was Caligula, only for him to remind her again and again that he is immortal, and she should stop stabbing him everyday after school. It is more or less a high school romantic comedy with an overcoming the monster third act. It also has some interesting characters (like anime should), particularly Akihitos mum, who behaves like a cat, and Akihitos friend Hiroomi who always wears a scarf and has a little sister complex (whatever that is). There is this supernatural war going on between Spirit Warriors and monsters called Youmu, (who are created by the negative feelings within the human heart) with Mirai being more or less a spirit warrior and Akihito being half-youmu, though spirit warriors and youmu that look like people seem to get along well. There is also an awful lot of exposition that isnt mentioned in the early stages, and while some episodes focus more on developing the characters, the overall story can be quite hard to follow or get too much into. But at the same time they manage to hit most the right targets. Our characters do develop and they do grow. They have their mountains to overcome, and they eventually challenge them, sometimes with great sacrifice. I have seen better and more engaging animes than this. But its still a pretty good show to watch. 7.5/10
