BIHAR OFFICER CONTRIBTION TO THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE & SOCIETY G.N.SINGH is from village Harkhouli, PO & PS Mirganj Distt. Gopalganj Bihar. He is the Ex-student of Sahu Jain Higher Secondary School Mirganj & Maharja Gopeshwar College Hathua. Though he was poor, he was meritorious as well as outstanding sportsman. By representing Bihar State, he is the Bronze Medallist in VII National Schools Games Federation of India at Bhopal in 1962 in Hockey. Being a defence employee, besides his day to day official works, he used to give coaching of Hockey along with Mr. Siddiki-PET to the students of KV Nagpur-21, due to which several sportsmen got National sports awards from 1977 to 1985 including his daughter Manju Singh. He also represented Rifle Factory Ishapur-WB & Ordnance Factory Nagpur as Captain of Hockey. Due to financial crunch, he took admission in the Govt. Polytechnic Ranchi though he got opportunity in the BIT-Meshra Ranchi, passed AMIE in Mechanical Engg. and subsequently got selection as Astt. Works manager- Class -1 gazetted post through UPSC in 1985. Being a born sportsman, even after retirement in June 2007, he awards the meritorious students/sportsmen every year of his Ex-School of Bihar as well as Rastrya Hindi High School O.F. Estate Ambajhari Nagpur run by SS Santha whose he is the founder Vice President. He has also donated his both eyes to the hospital for the welfare to the society. After his retirement as Jt. General Manager, based on his vast experience in Production & Quality Control, he has been awarded Fellowship by the Institute of Engineers (I) in 2008 and empanelled as Tech. Expert and Auditor by BIS ( Bureau of Indian Standard) . His major field of works is in Production and Quality control during his service period with high quality of establishing production of various type of following vital ammunitions: OF Ambajhari Nagpur- 81 mm Mortor Bomb-HE-‘C’, 105mm IFG Shell. Gun & Shell Factory Cossipur (WB) -106 RCL & 125 mm HEAT shell. Old forging mass of 106 RCL was 11KG which was redesigned by him with 5.5 Kg successfully which saved materials, reduced the scraps & operations. Ordnance Factory Chanda Chandrapur (MS) - Explosives filling of above Bombs, Shells and ammunitions including 155 mm (Bofors) Shell as well as most sophisticated “PRITHVI WARHEADS”. The noteworthy contribution lies in upgrading of Proving system of costly fuse B-15 and 125mm High Explosive Anti Tank (HEAT) ammunitions at Proof Establishment (CPE) Itarsi (MP) which has eliminated the rejection of these vital ammunitions as well as passing of all the earlier rejected lots in reproof by revised Proof Schedule proposed by Mr. G.N.Singh After his retirement in 2007, on behalf of BIS, he was engaged as an Expert for the audit as per ISO 9001:2008 of Ordnance Factory Bhusawal-MS. During audit, he observed that two mating components of Body Hinge and Lid Hinge of Ammunition Box were made on separate Press Machines engaging two operators. He assessed the capacity of the available Press Machines and proposed to club both the operations on single Press Machine by modifying the tooling only which will accelerate the productivity, reduce the scrapes as well as save the costly man power and Machine with better quality to their Head of Section-Mr. SK Shende/JWM before Mr. Makhijani/Works manager. Both the Officers agreed to and assured to implement the same. Based on his suggestion they procured the tooling from Indo-German Tools-Indore MP and tried out which was found very successful. After implementation of the proposal, they achieved the desired results and 1st time got First Prize in the TPM Competition as the best Kaizen at the National Academy of Defence Production (NADP) with cash awards to Mr. S.K. Shende/JWM & his team. Their Divisional Manager Mr. Makhijani-WM was suitably rewarded by the hands of our Audit Team at the end of the Closing Meeting of the ISO Audit as desired by their General Manager Mr S.K. Nafri since “our this outstanding achievement is due to Mr. G.N. Singh only.” Besides the above, they sent appreciation letter No. F/QA/ISO Sur_Audit/12 dated 31st July 2013 to the Deputy Director General/DDG-Western Region Mumbai and copy to Mr. G.N.Singh/Expert along with its CD for Kaizen/TPM. It is further highlighted that the Ordnance Factory Bhusawal letter was also discussed in details during “Auditors Meet” at Mumbai in Dec. 2012 and was well appreciated by all which has brought laurel to the BIS Audit standard for such marvellous achievement to our most valuable esteemed clients. Also during ISO Audit in August 2012 of 502, Army Base Workshop, Brigadier & Commandant-appreciated the suggestion Mr. G.N. Singh Expert & Auditor for improving the pressure testing of their guns and assured to implement the same. Mr. G.N. Singh-Tech. Expert & Auditor, on behalf of BIS, is auditing the organizations mainly for sharing his practical know-how cherished during long experience among the new generation apart from routine document audit.
