BITSAT Success Mantra !! As all of us know, there is no shortcut or a one word answer for how to crack BITSAT but some of the things, if treated carefully, can change our life for the next 4 years. From now on, a total of 19 days remain for online exams to start. Hence, I would like to discuss how you can crack BITSAT in these limited days if you haven’t done well in JEE. 1. It would be surprising but I would say to start off with a paper (preferably previous year, they are available online) in the given time. After you are done with the paper, check your score and see where you went wrong. I am sure most of you won’t be able to get above 300 at the first go, so there is nothing to panic as it’s just the beginning. After giving the paper, you must have gotten an idea about the level of questions asked, so now we can start our preparation. 1. Go through the syllabus and format of the paper available at: bitsadmission/bitsat/ BITSAT2013_brochure.htm 1. Now I know that you people must not be prepared for English and logical reasoning sections, so I will discuss those later. First let us focus on physics, chemistry and maths. Mark the things you have already completed. Bring any book like ‘BITSAT Explorer’ by MTG, or ‘A complete success package for online BITSAT’ by Arihant and make a gist of the topics which will not take more than 2 days to complete. Note : Don’t go through too many books, it will only create confusion. Trust one book and go with it. 1. You should not take more than 5 days to complete the first 3 steps. Guys, BITSAT is more about speed than its toughness level. So start doing 1 paper every day and check where you went wrong. This will take you about 5 hours a day. You must be thinking why 5 hours?? -3 hours for doing the paper and 2 hours of analysis. Remember analysis is most required. Without analysis your entire work is wasted and you will not be able to improve. In 1 day, we can study at least 9 hours at the Eleventh Hour. Hence, we will devote 2 hours for English and logical reasoning. 1. English can be prepared by just reading articles from Hindustan Times and questions from the mock papers. Reading an article is not supposed to be boring, I suppose. “Logical reasoning is one thing you can’t develop” is what most people say, but I feel that playing ‘SUDOKU’ can help. Solving questions on ‘sequence and series’ can also be of great help. Both of these things can sharpen your mind immensely. 2. I don’t think that anything more is required for preparation. However in the end I will tell you some of the topics which cover the maximum part of the paper. Now let us come to the part on how to attempt the paper- 1. I don’t know why I am saying this but start off with either maths or physics. The most probable reason would be that in the end there are more chances of calculation mistakes than in the beginning. 2. Attempt the paper in the following order (Just a suggestion, not compulsion)- Maths-Physics-Chemistry-English- Logical reasoning 1. Since there is a marking of +3/-1, don’t go for blind shots , however if a choice between 2 options exist I would say to go for it as ‘getting a high score is only possible if attempt percentage is more’. 2. Lastly there is confusion on whether to attempt the bonus questions - You must know that you can only attempt those 15 questions only if you have attempted all the questions of your normal paper. Frankly guys, bonus questions are easier than normal questions but you should attempt them only in a scenario if you have done approx. 140 questions + you must have around 20 minutes to attempt those too. In the end I would like to tell you some of the portion of the syllabus which you can work on more than other parts- PHYSICS Newton’s laws, energy and work, heat and thermodynamics, current electricity, Magnetism and magnetic effect of electric current. CHEMISTRY Concentrate on physical chemistry and quantitative analysis than organic and inorganic (especially for inorganic just go through NCERT) MATHS Trigonometry, Conic sections (parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, rectangular hyperbola), Vectors and 3D, Integral Calculus. I hope this would help you in the preparation. Again, I don’t want to repeat but this is very important, to crack BITSAT , it’s not the level of questions which matter but speed.
