BJP seeks removal of Odisha State Election Commissioner Ajit Tripathy By Our Correspondent Bhubaneswar, Sept. 23: President of Odisha state BJP unit K.V. Singhdeo on Monday alleged that the State Election Commissione Ajit Kumar Tripathy acted in “biased” manner while conducting polls for 66 urban local bodies (ULBs) recently. “The tall claims of the State Election Commissioner (SEC) Ajit Kumar Tripathy of being impartial person have been exposed. We had given several proofs regarding SEC’s prejudice and bias in handling alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the ruling BJD but all our voice were put on deaf ear,” This encouraged the BJD leaders and ministers to involve in vehement violation of the MCC and they rampantly used money and muscle power to lure and threaten people to win the election,” alleged Mr Singhdeo. He further said, “The SEC Mr Tripathy’s role in BJD’s alleged win in the ULB polls is far bigger than its leaders and ministers. Killing his conscience and ethics, he nurtured an illegitimate platform for the Naveen Patnaik government to win the polls.” Stating that even if Mr Tripathy was on a prominent post of a constitutional body, he was acting as the director of a company named Multi-disciplinary Centre on Safety Health and Environment against which several cases of financial irregularities and embezzlements were shown by the CAG in its 2009-10 and 2010-11 report. “This has clearly exposed his credibility and the state government blackmailed him on that ground. This made Mr Tripathy not to accept any case of alleged violation of the MCC even if he was in know of it,” said Mr Singhdeo. Elections to the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Municipality Corporations along with the deferred ULB polls in the western Odisha are on the cards. “Under such circumstances, holding of such crucial post of SEC by a tainted person like Mr Tripathy may result anarchy. He must be removed forthwith,” demanded Mr Singhdeo.
