*BLACK HISTORY FACT* Dr. Robert C. Weaver received the NAACP Spingarn Medal on this date in 1962. Dr. Weaver received the medal for his long years of dedicated public service at the municipal, state and federal levels. In 1933, Dr. Robert Weaver was one of a number of young men drawn to Washington, D.C. by the New Deal administration, where he received many job positions as an adviser on minority problems. Dr. Weaver soon became the leader of “The Black Cabinet” whose efforts resulted in increased participation by minority groups in the various programs sponsored by the government.
