BORROWED FROM LEARNED PEOPLE Dont confuse hypothesis and theory. The former is a possible explanation; the latter, the correct one. The establishment of theory is the very purpose of science. The interval between the decay of the old and the formation and establishment of the new constitutes a period of transition which must always necessarily be one of uncertainty, confusion, error, and wild and fierce fanaticism. The essence of belief is the establishment of a habit; and different beliefs are distinguished by the different modes of action to which they give rise. One change always leaves the way open for the establishment of others. But, there is nothing more agreeable in life than to make peace with the Establishment - and nothing more corrupting than that. In any compromise between food and poison, it is only death that can win. In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit. It is our task to inquire into the causes that have brought about the observed differentiation, and to investigate the sequence of events that have led to the establishment of the multifarious forms of human life.
