BOSSIER CITY, LA - A woman is jailed in Bossier City, accused of leaving a puppy in a locked car while she went shopping. Bossier City police were called to the parking lot of Pierre Bossier Mall last Friday after receiving a complaint that a puppy was found inside a car. A woman told investigators that she heard the dog yelping when she walked by the vehicle. According to police spokesman Mark Natale, the windows of the car were slightly cracked. While on the scene, the owner of the dog, Shelby Lynn Pickard, 21, returned to the car. She was questioned at the scene by officers and arrested. Picard was booked into the Bossier City jail on a charge of animal cruelty. Investigators say the outside temperature was 91 degrees but noted the temperature inside the car was much hotter. The puppy was taken to animal control and is doing fine. The dog was sent to a rescue home and will be adopted out to a permanent home.
