BREAKING NEWS: CITY ISSUES NOTICE OF INTENT TO DEMOLISH FORMER BATAVIA MOTOR INNE City CEO Ken Diehm says: Enough is enough. The City of Greater Geraldton announced today it had issued a notice of its intention to issue a demolition order on buildings on the former Batavia Motor Inne site in Geraldton’s West End. Refurbishment work is at a standstill and City CEO Ken Diehm said the City intended to take action. “Over the past four years the owners have repeatedly asked to extend their building application due to the imminent development of the site,” he said. “In the past we have taken them at their word and have extended their permit so that the building can be refurbished. “Last year I was given a further personal assurance by the owners that development was imminent. “I gave them until the end of February to provide me with evidence that development was going to occur, and be provided with the necessary documentation to properly assess the proposed works. “February has come and gone and enough is enough! “I have now instructed my staff to not renew the building application for the site and to issue a notice of intention to demolish.” Mr Diehm said the building was an eyesore and a blight on the community. “The Council is always willing to work with developers, but when the Council and our community are treated with contempt we must take strong and decisive action.”
