Surely, we can never attach the same prestige to a win made under a judge without deep connection to a breed, but we cannot seriously expect every judge to be fully immersed in every breed for which he or she is approved. Our opinion of a given judges competence often comes from how our dogs have fared in his/her ring. While this determination is often subjective, it is more important to consider from whence a judges credentials have come. When a judge has spent many years as a breeder, distinguishing him/herself as a source of superlative animals, an exhibotr can feel safe in seeking out the valuable opinion of an acknowledged authority.
