BRIEF - Taiwan courts migrant labour from Burma The Taiwanese government has reached out to Burma with a plan to hire migrant workers from the country, said Khin Nwe Oo, director of the Labour Ministrys Employment and Social Welfare Department. The overseas employment scheme, which has yet to be implemented, was pitched at a migrant rights workshop in Rangoon on Tuesday. The department head said that more than two million Burmese migrants are working under legal contracts in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, though several attendees at Tuesday’s event said that Burmese migrants working illegally greatly outnumber those with legal documents.
